Le Vignoble du Rêveur
Country: France
Region: Bennwhir, Alsace
“Le Vignoble du Rêveur” is Matthieu Deiss’ project. The son of Jean-Michel Diess, Matthieu’s main job remains working in the vines and cellar of his father’s family domaine, Domaine Marcel Deiss. Mathieu began his personal project in 2013 when he inherited vineyards from his maternal grandfather. His vineyards are managed biodynamically, and the wines are made with minimal intervention.
Vineyard and Viticulture
Vineyards are located mostly in the commune of Bennwihr, just outside of Kaysersberg valley. The soils have Quartenary rocks, a terroir that produces aromatic wines with freshness and youthful energy. In Matthieu’s words:
“Without a doubt, the natural environment is the ultimate guide when it comes my viticultural practices. So instinctively, I immediately began reconverting the entire estate to organic and biodynamic agriculture. After all, if we look back at the grand scheme of things, this was the only vititcultural mode throughout most of history! Because I have taken back my family’s holdings little by little, this transition to organics has been progressive.”
Winemaking
The wines are made with minimal intervention, with an eye to produce a wine, sans sulfur, in the near future.
